I have often been asked why nature appears so often in my poetry. The truth is, I don’t write about nature.
I write with it.
As I age, I realise that the natural world is my oldest and wisest companion. When life has left me searching for answers, I almost always find them in the turning of the seasons, the patience of trees. The returning birds, the wind that seems to arrive exactly when it is needed, or the quiet certainty that spring follows every winter.
To me, nature has consciousness and becomes a participant in life. Autumn speaks. January waits. November remembers. Gardens have secrets and mountains witness it all. Even Time feels like an old friend sitting beside the fire. Nature has its own language, if only we learn to notice it.

Perhaps that is why my poems so often wander between the ordinary and the ancient. A kettle boils. Washing dries on an airer. Children grow up and leave home. A garden needs tending. And somehow, alongside these everyday moments, walk Father Time, Janus, Yule, Samhain and all the old stories that remind us we have crossed here before.
The seasons understand motherhood and empty nests. They understand grief and ageing. They know what it is to let go, to lie fallow for a while and to begin again.
Writing this way has helped me make sense of my own life. It has taught me to slow down, to pay attention and to trust that even in times of change there is wisdom waiting quietly beneath our feet.
My book Pockets Full of Light is a SPECIAL EDITION. A companion for the quiet moments and the seasons of change. The in-between places and the gentle return.
I have carefully selected poems from across all my previously published works, as well as including two brand new poems. I hope you enjoy it.
