Fall Into Autumn – A Poetic Tribute To The Autumn Season

FROM THE LAMPLIGHTER CHAPTERS

“Let it pass.”
Breathes the golden presence of Autumn.
“Take a little more time,
Beneath the feather filled weighty covers.
The cock will crow a little later,
The sun will delay his rise.

I will make the day end sooner,
So you can find the simple kind of joy
That comes from readying yourself to be still.
Ignite the fire, light a candle.

Rest in the glow and peace of my time here.
For it is my time. And I am gently working still,
Cooling the mornings, frosting the nights.
Painting the leaves all the colours of your heart,
The rainbow will be away awhile.

Yes, now it’s my turn – to wake the fungi,
Shine the gems, turn the clocks for Father Time.
Walk with me while the spider finishes
Stitching my cape,
Red breast has returned with a message from
Your loved one.

Stir your soup.
Let it be so hot you may see the steam dance.
Read the book, knit the scarf, chop the wood.
Walk in the woods as the air fills your lungs.
But when I cover the evening sky,
Take your candle and light you the stairs.

Warm the bed and close the window.
Fall into me.
For soon the skies will burn in brilliance.
The Conker King will mulch and fall
To make way for the King of Winter.
