Adding Value

Hearing what we say and observing it’s impact is worthwhile and insightful.

Sometimes we don’t need to speak if what we have to say adds nothing of value.

Silence can shape a moment in time.

Speak carefully and thoughtfully so that you communicate exactly what you intend to leave behind.

I read so often, messages from parents saddened by the reactions and attitudes of family members towards the choice to home educate their children.

It is very sad because those very people are the ones who stand to lose the most. Your child still has you and you already have their best interests at heart. You are going to be able to watch them grow and thrive in a setting that is set up for success – your home. You show up each day with love and encouragement and even on the toughest of days you are still demonstrating that your child means everything to you, no matter what.

But those who chose to stop visiting and supporting your child in the unconditional way family should, are missing out on sharing this wonderful journey with you all. They are missing the milestones, the photo opportunities , the Aha moments when something clicks. They are missing the laughter and tears, the valued solid post a parent can lean on or an oracle of fascinating stories and skills to gift that young person during the special times they could spend together.

It is a shame. But the child’s gain will be so much more as they watch their parents overcome those struggles, model resilience and find new people. The kind who want to be there. The kind whose love is given freely and in abundance.
